1) 'Doo Wop (That Thing)' by Lauryn Hill
Maybe one of the most talented women in music. Along with the rest of the world I patiently await a new album. I played this album to death. Not a poor song on there. I've chosen this because the video is ace and I always dj it out.
2) 'Bills Bills Bills' by Destiny's Child
It sounds dated now but it doesn't matter. Production, lyrics and vocals on this are all stellar.
3) 'Fucking Boyfriend' by The Bird and The Bee
I absolutely adore their approach to music and lyrics. This song is clever in its simplicity
4) 'I Believe' by Simian Mobile Disco
Melancholy and banging. My favourite combination.
5) 'Ain't Saying My Goodbyes' by Tom Vek
Still sounds fresh when you play it now. Hasn't aged at all.
6) 'Bathroom Gurgle' by Late of the Pier
Reminds me of a few years back. Good clubs, good bands and good friends. Love this band live too.
7) 'Graffiti' by Maximo Park
This may be one of the greatest guitar riffs ever written. I sometimes forget what a great album this was.
8) 'I have Forgiven Jesus' by Morrissey
It's no secret that I'm a bit of a Morrissey obsessive. I remember seeing him perform this live on CD:UK (!) and I'm not sure if it was the stark contrast of this song, the lyric set against the screaming children and bacofoil backdrop but I fell in love instantly.
9) 'War Of Nerves' by All Saints
They have a very impressive back catalogue but I always loved this one best. I love the line "the stage fright in my own bed"
(BTW CocknBullKdi recently performed a cover of 'Pure Shores' by All Saints live in session for Jo Whiley on Radio 2, listen again here for a limited time, she's 25 mins in)
10) 'Cry Me A River' by Justin Timberlake
Amazing video aside. Timbaland's production on this is probably one of his best and Justin sounds so gorgeous and pained on this. Perfect.
11) 'My Name Is' by Eminem
I remember hearing this for the first time and instantly wanting to hear the rest of the album. Classic.
12) 'Love Profusion' by Madonna
I can't put my finger on why this song works so well but it does. Just a guitar and a strong melody is all you need to make a brilliant song. I love how altogether acoustic and dancey Mirwais managed to make this sound.
13) 'Gabriel' by Joe Goddard feat Valentina
I know it's pretty bold putting this on here seeing as it's only been out for 5 seconds but It's just so huge! I went out with some friends a few weeks ago and ended up playing some songs at the after party. I played this on repeat for about 30 minutes and no one complained. Surely that's a good sign.
14) 'Maps' by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Off one of my favourite albums. Ever. I love how pleading she sounds on this, especially towards the end. Goosebumps.
